Since 1851, the name SINGER\"\u00ae\ufe0f\" has been synonymous with sewing. This was the year of Isaac Singer’s patent on his first practical sewing machine, making the official beginning of SINGER\"\u00ae\ufe0f\" as a company and its leadership in the industry. 1855: The SINGER\u00ae brand is awarded the first prize at the World\u2019s Fair in Paris, France. That same year, SINGER\u00ae becomes the largest selling brand of sewing machines internationally.<\/p>\n

1858: SINGER\u00ae brand introduces the first lightweight domestic machine, the Grasshopper\u2122.<\/p>\n

1865: SINGER\u00ae brand delivers the \u201cNew Family\u201d Sewing Machine. US Civil War Ends.<\/p>\n

1929: Overall American sales of sewing machines drop. SINGER\u00ae brand attributes this to the Flapper social trend, featuring emancipated women who were moving away from traditional homemaker role.<\/p>\n

1933: The Featherweight\u2122 221 sewing machine is introduced at the Chicago World\u2019s Fair. This machine stays in production for over 30 years and remains as an iconic image of the SINGER\u00ae brand.<\/p>\n

1939-1945: SINGER\u00ae brand ceases development of sewing machines to focus on producing wartime goods.<\/p>\n

1951: SINGER\u00ae brand\u2019s 600 sewing centers have trained an estimated 400,000 homemakers.<\/p>\n
